We know there hasn’t been much to update you on in the last few months, since badminton has not been able to continue in any ‘normal’ format. Some of our clubs managed to return to singles play before the national lockdown on 26 December 2020. However since then there has been no opportunity for badminton for any of our clubs or members.
We are not anticipating any return to play until Autumn at the earliest. With the expected easing of restrictions at the end of April 2021, we do not anticipate this will allow the league to return to competitive games. We also think many of our clubs will be unable to restart until a later date due to the number of households allowed to meet indoors at the one time.
With this in mind, our annual tournament Thornlee will be cancelled for the second year in a row. We are hopeful Thornlee will be able to return in 2022.
We will meet with club captains before the season is due to begin again in September 2021 to understand, with restrictions set at that time, how the league could return to some form of normality. Prior to competitive games beginning, we are hopeful to arrange a fun/social tournament for all Langside League club members — “The Battle of Langside”. More information to follow!
We still have the finals of our Southern Trophy and Henderson Cup to take place. When appropriate, we will agree with the respective team captains to understand when we can re-stage these finals when restrictions allow us to do so.
In the meantime, do continue to keep in touch with your clubs and check in on each other. Life can be tough just now, but it is going to get better.
We are continuing to work closely with Badminton Scotland and their regional groups to understand how we can return to badminton safely once national restrictions allow us to.
