Thornlee confirmed for 2024

Langside Badminton League’s end-of-season tournament, Thornlee, will be back in 2024.

Thornlee provides an opportunity for individuals to enter singles, doubles, mixed and balloted mixed events. As well as competing in individual championships, players compete for points to help towards their club being awarded the Thornlee Trophy, as well as to be awarded the ‘Most Valueable Player’ of the Tournament.

Thornlee 2024 will take place on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 May 2024, at BADMINTONscotland’s Sir Craig Reedie (Cockburn) Badminton Centre. Confirmation of which events will be held each day will be take place after entries close, as it will depend on numbers received for each event to ensure the order of play can be filled as best as possible.

2023 saw Thornlee take place for the first time across the one weekend in a central venue. Following our AGM earlier this month, we asked previous participants for thier feedback to shape the 2024 event:

  • 100% respondents said they wanted the 2024 event to be held in a central venue, such as the Cockburn, as opposed to our club halls.
  • 94% of respondents said they wanted all qualifications and finals to be held on the same day, as opposed to across a three week period.
  • 88% of respondents said they wanted the event to take place across a Saturday and Sunday, as opposed to two different Saturdays.

Thornlee is a restricted tournament, meaning only players who are registered with one of Langside’s eight clubs can take part. Clubs have until 31 December 2023 to register players to be able to compete. So if you’d like to enter in to Thornlee 2024, make sure you have been registered — you can check by visiting www.langsidebadminton.co.uk/compete

Registration for the 2024 event will open in January 2024. A recap of the 2023 event can be found here.
