Have a hit on top of the Finnieston Crane!

Langside Badminton League is proud to announce we have been invited to take part in a “world’s first”, by competing in a badminton match at the top of the Finnieston Crane in Glasgow.

Alongside other clubs in Glasgow, players will take in the panoramic views of the city, whilst competing to be crowned the 2023 “Crane Champs”.

Apollo Fir LTD, based in Clarkston in East Renfrewshire, will be running the event. Director of Safety & Engagement, Ms. Lori Palof, said “We have a number of employees who are badminton players, and we are always looking for ways we can get involved in community initiatives, and to support exciting new ways of socialising in sports.

“As Scotland’s leading abseil manufacturer, this seemed like a no brainer and a great way to test out AirBadminton shuttles 175 feet in the air!”

AirBadminton was launched in April 2019, and during the peak of COVID saw a number of people take up the sport in the backgardens or in parks. Due to the nature of using feathered shuttles in outdoor scenarios, AirBadminton equipment will be used at this event.

Safety will be of utmost importance for all players, with specialised equipment and harnesses being provided to all level of player. Industrial strength ropes will also keep players safe at all times, should they accidentally lose their footing.

Full training, safety procedures and paid time off work to take part will be provided as part of the experience.

We will soon be launching the registration form for this event, and would encourage all members to sign up. In the meantime, please continue to visit our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts for more news, and for many more April Fools stories over the coming years.

As a reminder, registration is now open for our end-of-season tournament, Thornlee. The closing date for entries is Saturday 22 April. Don’t be a fool, register today!
