Following the recent advice from the Scottish Government and Badminton Scotland, we regret to inform you we have made the difficult decision to cancel our end of year tournament, Thornlee, for 2020. This is to support the social distancing measures put in place to limit the spread and infection of the coronavirus, COVID-19.
This has not been an easy decision to make, and we had been hoping for a positive outcome particularly following the highest registration we have had for Thornlee in recent years. However the health and wellbeing of players in our clubs are, and will always be, our number one priority. We strive to provide a safe and welcoming environment for anyone who wishes to take part in competitive badminton.
Upcoming cup matches for the Southern Trophy and Henderson Cup have also been cancelled, but we hope to reschedule these for another date. Given the uncertainty of timescales, we would anticipate this would be towards the end of summer before the new season begins, but we will confirm with you at a later date.
We would encourage you all to stay safe, keep in regular contact with friends and family to ensure they are doing okay too, and follow any guidance issued by the Scottish Government and Health Protection Scotland.
Although there won’t be any badminton being played for the foreseeable future, you can still keep in touch with us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. We hope to keep hearing from you during this unprecedented time.
Refunds for Thornlee 2020 will be issued by contacting your club captain.
We’d like to thank you for your support, and wish you all the very best in good health and good spirits.
