Thornlee 2023

Thornlee will return in 2023, having been on hiatus since 2019 due to the COVID pandemic. It will take place on Saturday 6 May 2023 at BADMINTONscotland’s Sir Craig Reedie (Cockburn) Badminton Centre in Glasgow. All events will be held on the same day, including finals for all disciplines.

There will be four events available to participants in 2023: singles, doubles, mixed doubles and balloted doubles. We aim to make Thornlee affordable to all, and look at costs around £8 per person per event, or £26 for all four. This will be confirmed when we launch entries in early 2023.

If you do not have a partner to play in the doubles events, you can let us know when you register your space and we will do our best to find you a partner from other entries. If registering for the Balloted Mixed Doubles, a partner will be found for you from a different club within Langside.

The Thornlee Trophy

In 1973, The Thornlee Trophy, presented by Orchardhill Badminton Club, was introduced to award the overall best performing club at the Thornlee tournament. Players represent their clubs across events, earning points that go towards the total for their club. Points are awarded as follows:

  • Champion: 6 points
  • Runner-up: 5 points
  • Semi Finalist: 4 points
  • Quarter finalist: 3 points
  • Consolation winner: 2 points
  • Consolation runner-up: 1 point

Singles players are awarded the full points, whereas doubles pairings split the points between them.

The 2022 tournament will see the introduction of a new trophy being presented as part of the event: Player of the Tournament. This will be awarded the the player who earns the most point across all events they enter.
